The Chief of New Akrade in the Akwamu Traditional Area of the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region, Nana Okrukata V, has urged the government to revive the services of the Dodi Princess on the Volta River to boost tourism activities in the district and the country as a whole.

Nana made this passionate appeal in an interview with ghananewsonline.com.gh at his palace ahead of this year’s Abedru Festival scheduled for celebration later this October.

According to the the Chief of Akrade this can boost the potentials of the area as far as Tourism is concerned

“There are great potentials for tourism in the Akosombo tourist area and for that matter Akwamuman. The Akosombo Dam, The Christianburg Castle Keys at Akwamufie, New Akrade ancient Brass Pans, Akwamuman Forest Conservation Zone, Adomi Bridge, beautiful Scenic Volta River Gorge and also the Sprawling of new Hotels and Resorts are quite an attraction to the whole country.

“Unfortunately, the only tourist boat in Ghana, the Dodi Princess that crown tourism in Akosombo, as the queen of the Volta River has been absent for several years. I would therefore urge government officials responsible to do all you can to let Dodi Princess sail once again,” he stated.

According to the chief, the revival of the Dodi Princess will go a long way to boost the tourist attraction in the area which will attract and bring many investors into the district which will raise resources into the national coffers to sphearhead the developmental agenda of the district and the country as a whole.

Nana Okrukata V, who was visibly disturbed with the current chieftancy succession feuds on the rise in the country said he has a vision of championing the course of changing some traditional chieftancy arrangements regarding the tenure of Chiefs.

“I Nana Okrukata V, has the vission of championing the course of changing some traditional chieftancy arrangements regarding the tenure of Chiefs. That chieftancy should not be for life but for a period of 15 years after which it must be rotated. This arrangement would stop the current chieftancy succession feuds which is on the rise in the country which i believe will give room to ensure good succession planning,” he stated.

Nana Okrukata V revealed the theme for this year’s Abedru Festivals as “Sustaining Our Culture and Heritage Through Festival” appealing to the sons and daughters of the New Akrade community to make this year’s Festival their priority, by contributing their quota towards the construction of a medical center for the community.

Nana requests the government to construct a first class Medical Center for the Asuogyaman District to help reduce the increasing medical needs of the expanding population in the district while reducing the current pressure on the Volta River Hospital (VRH)

He commended the government for implementing most of its promised flagship programmes during the 2016 general elections.

“Let me take this opportunity to commend the President Akufo-Addo leg government for implementing most of his campaign promises, promised Ghanaians during the 2016 general elections. You promised Free Senior High School, One District One Factory, Free School Feeding Programme, Planting for Food and Jobs among others, today most of these promises are fulfilled and I say Ayikoo”.
