The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Madina Constituency, has expressed the confidence that it would reclaim the parliamentary seat it lost to Boniface Abubakar Saddique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 general elections.

The Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Rahman, stated this while speaking with THE REPUBLIC on the fate in the party as it embarked on reorganisation and membership drive in the constituency last Sunday.

According to Alhaji Survival as he is affectionately called, it was evident that NDC would win the seat which was snatched by the NPP due to the internal problems that the party suffered before and during the 2016 general elections.

He added that the party has an over-whelming support base in Madina Constituency which could be cresting as its strong area, nothing that, ” we are taking steps to resolve all division that helped NPP to take the seat.”

“The seat is for us and we are determined to take our seat back. The NPP themselves knew about that and we are coming with one voice and will use all legitimate means politically to take our seat back, ” Alhaji Survival added.

In the 2016 general elections, Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP obtained 37,528 representing 50.16 per cent against, John Mahama of the NDC with 6,658 representing 48.99 per cent.

On the parliamentary results, Alhaji Bonifac Saddique Abubakar obtained 40,283 representing 54.90 per cent to beat Alhaji Amadu Bukai Sorogho of the NDC, who managed with 31,650 representing 43.13 per cent.

But sounding very optimistic of the party victory in 2020, the Madina NDC Chairman assured that with the efforts made so far by the newly elected executives in the area of unity and reconciliation, grassroots mobilisation and upcoming outreach election programmes, the party would redeem it electoral fortunes in 2020.

Alhaji Survival said: “I see no reason why we will not win back the Madina seat at the polls. If election is all about the people, we will win better now than before. We have over the years provided quality services to the people of Ghana which this supper incompetent NPP could not.

“Everywhere you go people are complaining. The worse of it all is this failed education policy, the so call free SHS which is now shift system or in their words double track system. For me, NPP has failed and must be booted out in 2020 to save the country,” he added.

In the view of the NDC Chairman, there was no way the party would lose the 2020 elections, hence the plans by the NPP government to intimidate electorates, saying, “No intimidation will deter the people of Ghana from voting for the NDC to come back to power.”

He noted that, the people of Ghana would in 2020 have the opportunity to vote on the performance of President Nana Akufo Addo as against the performance of John Dramani Mahama of the NDC administration.

With regards to the upcoming Regional conference to elect regional executives, Alhaji Survival said, the Madina chapter of the NDC would study the various aspirants and make their decision at the polls.

He said, no matter the challenges, the Madina delegates would vote in unison for candidates they believed could do the job and bring victory to the party at the general elections.

He also cautioned members of the party in the constituency, especially branch executives to desist from openly endorsing or giving support to a particular flag-bearer aspirants.
