100 more Astro Turfs to be constructed by the end of 2024 – Akufo-Addo

The construction of Astro Turfs in the country is a government initiative, aimed at providing every constituency in Ghana with the facility, which will help to unearth football talents, protect players from career-threatening injuries, and curtail juvenal delinquency.

President Akufo-Addo has disclosed that his government is expected to build additional 100 Atsro Turfs across the country by the end of 2024.

He said this on Tuesday February 13, whiles commissioning the newly built Borteyman Sports Complex in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the President, his government has so far constructed about 150 Astro Turfs throughout the nation, explaining that the construction of more of such facilities is a testament that his government is committed to providing infrastructure for development of sports.

“At the community level, government has invested massively in the provision of Astro Turfs for various communities across the country. Thus far, government has built some 150 Astro Turf pitches across the country. It is important to note that when i assumed office in January 2017, Ghana had only three public Astro Turfs in the country. We expect to construct another 100 Astro Turfs before the end of this year,” he sated.

“This again demonstrates government’s commitment to the provision of sporting infrastructure to engender the right facilities for the development of sports in Ghana.”
