The Ghanaian flag was lifted high at the just ended International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) held in Doha, Qatar. A contingent of nine, six contestants and three team leaders, represented Ghana in the competition designed to celebrate talented students in the sciences under the age of sixteen.
Six students: Isaac Kofi Gyamfi (Presec-Legon), Ademide Adebanjo and Hillary Dautey (Galaxy Inernational School), and from Ghana Christian International High School, Nathan Amankwah, Elmer Amenyitor and Louise Fenny – winners of The Sharks Juniors represented Team Ghana.
Overall, seventy countries participated in the event. The students were tested on their theoretical and practical knowledge in the sciences. Aside academics, they toured interesting sites in Qatar including Sealine, Aspire Sports Academy, Museum of Islamic Arts, Qatar National Museum, Cultural Village, Texas A&M University, Qatar and many others.
At the end, Ghana won one bronze medal from Ademide Adebanjo and a silver medal from Isaac Kofi Gyamfi. With this feat, Ghana set the record as the only African nation to win a silver medal at this year’s competition and won the hearts of many at the tournament. Kudos to the contestants.
