“It had been two difficult years for our sector as we experienced the adverse effects of the COVID -19 pandemic across the entire value chain. Yet we kept hope alive, believing- just as the President had stated- that this too was going to pass, and we commend sector players for their resilience.”

One hundred and ninety-four (194) flights were successfully conducted at this year’s Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival.

Mr. Jones Nelson, Communications Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) revealed on Monday, April 18, 2022 that 194 flights were successfully conducted. This, he noted, was made up of 188 tandem flights and 6 solo flights.

The GTA says all those who pre-booked and paid the required fee of GHC 550 to fly but could not do so due to adverse weather, will have the opportunity to experience paragliding in September when the GTA plans to organise the Corporate Paragliding Festival.

Mr. Akwesi Agyeman, Chief Executive Officer, GTA in an earlier interview said: “It had been two difficult years for our sector as we experienced the adverse effects of the COVID -19 pandemic across the entire value chain. Yet we kept hope alive, believing- just as the President had stated- that this too was going to pass, and we commend sector players for their resilience.”

This year’s event, which was held from Friday, April 15 to Monday, April 18, 2022 saw enhanced collaboration between the GTA and Kwahu Traditional Authority, the Kwahu East, West and South Assemblies and other key stakeholders to form a Local Organising Committee (LOC). This ensured improved experience for local and foreign tourists.

Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area commended the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture, the GTA and other stakeholders for ensuring everything was in place before the start of the event,

He noted that, though the Kwahu people are well-known for their special Easter celebrations, the paragliding sport at Mount Odweanoma has added colour to the yearly event and made Kwahu a must-visit tourist destination.
