2020 Budget: Kwame Sefa Kayi points out Another Error

Popular radio host, Kwame Sefa Kayi, has revealed that the government has included an already constructed road network – Tarkwa -Damang road in its road construction promises during the budget presentation in parliament last Wednesday.

He pointed this out in a radio discussion monitored by ghananewsonline.com.gh on Friday, hinting at “another possible oversight” in the 2020 budget statement.

The Tarkwa-Damang road in the Western region was reconstructed and officially commissioned by Gold Fields Ghana in July. The Asphalt road, which costs GHc 145 million links Tarkwa and Damang, and serves several communities in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley municipalities.

According to the popularly morning show host who is also referred as Chairman-General, the same road network has been included in the government’s budgetary promises, enlisted under the “critical roads” to be constructed – “Aboso Junction Huni-Valley-Damang”.

Speaking on the issue, the Honorable Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bia East Constituency, Richard Acheampong, argued that, adding an already constructed road to its budgetary promises is government’s way of trying to eventually take glory for the work done by the private company.

He mentioned that, since next year is an election year in Ghana, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) might use this particular road network in its campaign as work completed while in office despite it being untrue.

Honourable MP for Tarkwa Nhyiaeso constituency, Georgia Mireku Duker, however explained that, it is probable that the government is trying to construct subsidiary road networks joined to what Gold Fields Ghana has already done or a complete oversight.

The MP added that, if it was an oversight in the budget preparation, he will raise this concern to the appropriate authorities in Parliament when estimates are being made for road construction in the region.
