The Vice President of IMANI Africa, Selorm Branttie says Ghana is experiencing the hardest year ever in the socio-economic history of the fourth republic.
According to him, contrary to claims that the passage of the controversial Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) will solve the country’s economic mess, the reverse is the case as it will rather worsen the already difficult economic plight of Ghanaians.
“This year might be one of the hardest years probably on the socio-economic situation since the creation of the fourth republic.”
Speaking on Accra-based Joy News, the policy analyst stressed that the passage of the E-Levy will not solve any major problem.
“There are quite a lot of gloomy threats to our livelihood which needs to be looked at and addressed and this passing of the e-levy is not going to be that panacea which is going to solve any major problem,” he said.
The Policy Analyst also noted that government will only use the proceeds from the E-Levy to act as collateral for loans to continue their flagship projects with no return on investment.
“What I personally do believe is that this e-levy is just going to be collateralized for some further debts which you and I and your fellow viewers are going to pay in the short-medium.”
“They are going to be used to continue flagship projects that do not have any direct return on investment for which some of these loans are being incurred so for me it is still bleak,” he added.
