2022 World Cup: Rajevac tells Black Stars not to focus on revenge against Uruguay

Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac has advised the Black Stars to concentrate on qualifying from their group rather than targeting Uruguay.

The former Ghana coach Milo described the Black Stars group as tough in an exclusive interview with Akoma Sports on Tuesday.

Black Stars will face former European champions Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.

The match against Uruguay is a rematch of the 2010 quarter-final meeting in South Africa.

Black Stars were defeated on penalties after Asamoah Gyan missed a last-minute penalty awarded after Luis Suarez blocked a goal-bound effort with his hand.

Ghanaians want revenge, but Milo, who led the team in 2010, has a different perspective.

“Ghana should take the match against Uruguay as any other match, they should stay focused and determined to win,” he said.

“The group is very strong. Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay are very strong teams and Ghana have to go an extra mile to qualify for the next round. In 2010, the situation was pretty similar, the group was strong, but Ghana managed to cope with all the challenges and make historical success.

“Unity of the team is the crucial aspect for achieving great things. Ghana has the talent and the passion, I’m sure that every player, coach and official will do their best to make Ghana proud.”

Rajevac returned for a second stint in September last year, but was fired following Ghana’s group stage exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon earlier this year, but he insists he has unfinished business with the Black Stars.

“I have unfinished business with Black Stars. No one knows what the future holds,” Rajevac said.

“Ghana is my second home, so if another opportunity arises for me to come there, I will consider it seriously.”

“Last time I didn’t have enough time to implement everything I wanted, like the first time in Ghana.”

“In order to achieve great targets, time is of the essence,” he added.
