2024 BECE: Results of 149 Schools Under Scrutiny

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced that the results of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates from 149 schools across the country have been withheld after reported irregularities.

The said schools are being investigated for a final decision.

In a press statement announcing the release of the provisional results, the Council noted, “The withheld results may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations.”

Meanwhile, 380 candidates had subject results cancelled for either taking foreign materials into the examination hall or colluding with other candidates, it announced.

Of this number, it said 377 are school candidates and 3 are private candidates.

Additionally, the entire results of 41 school candidates and one private candidate were cancelled while the entire results of 33 school candidates and 3 private candidates have been withheld.

Release
In a statement dated October 19, WAEC announced the release of the provisional results of the BECE, directing private candidates and school candidates to visit their websites to access them.

Meanwhile, the results of the school candidates will be dispatched to their respective schools through the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education.

“The results for Private Candidates can be accessed at the Council’s website www.waecgh.org -School candidates who so desire may also access their results online at the Council’s website.”

Stat
A total of 569,236 candidates, comprising 282,703 males and 286,533 females from 19,505 participating schools, entered the school examination. This included 59 candidates with visual impairment, 263 with hearing impairment and 161 candidates with other test accommodation needs.

Of the total, 3,845 candidates were absent.

 

The examination was conducted at 2,123 centres across the country.

The BECE for Private Candidates recorded a total entry figure of 1,390 candidates, which was made up of 750 males and 640 females. Fifteen (15) centres, mostly in the regional capitals, were used for the BECE for Private Candidates.

Out of the total number of candidates who entered the examination, 57 were absent.
