The heads of Ghana’s key security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana Revenue Authority, convened at the Police Headquarters in Accra to meet with political parties participating in the December 7, 2024, general elections.

With just 16 days to the polls, this historic election features a former President seeking a second and final term, a sitting Vice President contesting for the presidency, and a young candidate representing the New Force Movement.

The meeting aimed to brief political parties on the security arrangements for the election, assure the public of the agencies’ neutrality and commitment to the rule of law, and provide a platform for the parties to share any security concerns.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, commended political parties for their commitment to maintaining peace during the election period. He urged all stakeholders to prepare for the reality that out of the 13 presidential candidates, only one will emerge victorious, and out of the 801 parliamentary candidates, only 276 will win seats in Parliament.

“We hope that in the remaining days of the campaign, all parties will continue to be law-abiding and conduct themselves peacefully, demonstrating to the world that the black man is indeed capable of managing his own affairs,” Dr. Dampare said.

He emphasized the collective resolve of the security agencies to prioritize Ghana’s and Africa’s interests, remaining neutral in their actions before, during, and after the elections.

“This commitment to neutrality is not just our duty but our promise to every Ghanaian,” Dr. Dampare concluded.
