Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has urged Ghanaians to have confidence in the Judiciary as structures have been put in place to deal with election-related cases promptly.
In a statement, the Chief Justice assures Ghanaians that the country’s judiciary is very prepared and independent and would not do anything to jeopardise the peace enjoyed by citizens.
The statement said the Judiciary is poised to promptly deal with all election-related matters brought before the Court before, during, and after the December 7 General Election under the strict guidance of the provisions in the new Manual on Election Adjudication.
The statement was released following a dialogue between the Elections Management Committee of the Judiciary and a group of eminent persons from the Christian Council in Accra. The yet-to-be launched manual is divided into three parts.
Volume one contains general guidelines and considerations a party to a Presidential or Parliamentary dispute should consider in terms of capacity, jurisdiction, and procedure.
Volume two is a compendium of election-related laws, including the necessary statutory forms, while Volume three is a digest of cases that provide insights into how the superior courts have dealt with previous cases, including Constitutional interpretations provided by the Supreme Court.
