2024 WASSCE: Let’s play by the rules – Dep. Education Minister urges stakeholders
Some seven candidates who had registered for Monday’s first core paper at the Labone Senior High School were denied access to the exam hall for reporting late.
Deputy Education Minister, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, has encouraged all stakeholders involved in the ongoing WASSCE examination to stick to the rules of engagement.
The Deputy Minister, during a tour of the examination centre at the Labone SHS to assess the progress of the exercise, said the issue of some students denied entry to the exams halls for being late is yet to come to his attention but he will look into it.
Some seven candidates who had registered for Monday’s first core paper at the Labone Senior High School were denied access to the exam hall for reporting late.
The Minister, during a media encounter after visiting some halls to urge the students on, maintained that the rules of engagement must be applicable.
“The rules are quiet clear and therefore I would like to find out the exact incident that happened and get the full details of it before I can respond. But there are rules to every examination, and I will appeal that all stakeholders abide by that rule. If you are a student, invigilator or WAEC go by the rules. So, this particular instance it hasn’t come to my attention, but I will look into it.”
According to the Headmistress of the school, Madam Rejoice Akua Acorlor, the students were unable to justify their lateness. She said parents of the various students will be engaged after the day’s paper for the way forward.
“You see I am a mother and so I feel it when my children are going through this, but rules are rules. They were too late. If they were even 30minutes late, they would have been considered. It’s rather unfortunate. From here I will engage with the parents about what happened, and appeal to them to ensure the candidates are assisted to make it early for their papers.”
Some one thousand four hundred and forty-four (1,444) candidates are sitting for the examination at the school.
