The Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership, a flagship initiative of the Nasser International Forum, is set to continue its impactful work in promoting global youth empowerment. The Fellowship is one of several programs aimed at supporting international development by providing the necessary qualifications, training, and support to deserving young leaders from diverse backgrounds. The Fellowship aims to prepare these future leaders for executive positions, harnessing their skills and ideas to contribute to global development.

This initiative specifically targets young leaders active in their communities, particularly those with executive specializations. It serves as a platform to share Egypt’s developmental experience and strengthen national institutions while promoting the values of sustainable development, social justice, and youth empowerment.

The Nasser Fellowship aligns with key international frameworks, such as the United Nations’ resolutions on youth, Egypt’s Vision 2030, the African Union’s Agenda 2063, and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It emphasizes gender equality, youth empowerment, and the creation of global partnerships through South-South cooperation.

Inspired by Egypt’s rich cultural heritage, the Fellowship draws upon symbols like the Wing of Ma’at and the Seven Pillars of Egyptian Identity. These elements reflect justice, balance, wisdom, and the integration of diverse cultures—values essential to modern leadership. The program honors the legacy of Gamal Abdel Nasser, the leader of the 1952 Egyptian Revolution, known for his pivotal role in shaping the modern Egyptian state and for his support of liberation movements across the Global South.

The Nasser Fellowship was first launched in 2019, coinciding with Egypt’s presidency of the African Union, and initially focused on young leaders from Africa. Since then, it has expanded to include Asia, Australia, Latin America, and Europe, promoting South-South cooperation and providing a platform for young leaders worldwide to exchange ideas and build partnerships. Previous batches have seen participation from hundreds of young leaders from various continents, with substantial contributions to the development of local, regional, and international initiatives.

Through its five-year history, the Fellowship has trained nearly 600 young leaders from 90 countries, facilitating collaborations with over 30 institutions and hosting meetings with government officials, ministers, and ambassadors. It has also successfully launched over 60 development initiatives across the globe, further solidifying its commitment to global youth empowerment.

“The Nasser Youth Movement, an extension of the Fellowship, continues to grow, launching initiatives in 67 countries and encouraging partnerships among youth organizations worldwide. It serves as a catalyst for creating sustainable development projects, building networks, and offering platforms for dialogue.”

The Nasser Fellowship’s latest edition, the fifth batch, will celebrate Egypt’s 80th anniversary of participation in the United Nations. This year’s program will focus on multilateral cooperation, the role of youth in global governance, and the importance of strengthening South-South cooperation. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with UN resolutions on youth and Global South issues, explore ways to activate the strategic partnership between Egypt and the UN, and learn from Egypt’s experience in promoting sustainable development and peace.

The Fellowship targets 150 young leaders from around the world, with a 50/50 gender balance and a focus on including individuals with disabilities. The participants will come from various sectors, including decision-makers in public and private sectors, civil society activists, youth council leaders, university faculty, journalists, content creators, and social entrepreneurs.

Key Objectives of the 2025 Fellowship: Strengthen multilateral cooperation and dialogue among youth from across the world, Celebrate Egypt’s role in the UN and highlight the achievements of the Global South, Activate youth participation in peace, security, and volunteerism, Focus on South-South cooperation and the empowerment of youth and women in achieving the SDGs, Create educational programs on advocacy, sustainability, and cultural exchange and to build a youth bloc that will serve as a platform for collaboration and leadership in international development.

The Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership continues to create sustainable change, empowering the next generation of leaders who will shape a more equitable and just global future. Applications are now open for young leaders aged 18-40 with a proficiency in English, and the selection criteria ensure transparency, equal opportunity, and adherence to Egypt’s Vision 2030 and international development goals.
