2025 U-20 AFCONQ:Black Satellites secure first victory with 2-0 win over Niger
Ghana, coming off a 2-2 draw against Benin in their opening game, entered the match determined to collect all three points.
The Black Satellites of Ghana clinched their first victory in the U-20 WAFU B Cup of Nations Championship with a 2-0 win over Niger on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
The triumph, which came in their second Group A match, was secured by two second-half goals from Aziz Musibau.
Ghana, coming off a 2-2 draw against Benin in their opening game, entered the match determined to collect all three points.
Niger, having also drawn 2-2 with Togo in their first fixture, sought a similar outcome.
The match began energetically, with both sides creating chances during the opening 30 minutes.
However, neither team managed to find the back of the net before the halftime whistle.
The breakthrough came for Ghana in the 63rd minute when Musibau fired a long-range strike that sailed past the Nigerien goalkeeper, giving the Black Satellites the lead.
Just ten minutes later, Musibau struck again, doubling the advantage.
After receiving a precise square pass from Jerry Afriyie in the final third, Musibau calmly slotted the ball home to complete his brace and extend Ghana’s lead.
Despite Niger’s efforts to respond, the Black Satellites held firm, defending well to keep a clean sheet and secure a crucial victory for coach Ofei’s side.
The result leaves Ghana with four points from two games, setting them up for a decisive final group match against Togo on Wednesday, October 23.
This tournament doubles as a qualifier for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place next year.
