Founder and Leader of the All People’s Congress(APC), Dr Hassan Ayariga has said that the Controversial -24-hour economy was first proposed in his 2020 manifesto which is why NDC is struggling to explain.

The 2020 presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress at a press conference on Tuesday said the fact that the NDC and John Mahama are struggling to explain clearly shows that the 24-hour economy policy is not the bonafide property of NDC.

“The 24-hour economy policy is not only a practical solution to the economic crisis and challenges we face in Ghana but also an opportunity for companies, and businesses to create a sustainable and better working environment for their employees while increasing their operational efficiency and productivity,” Dr. Hassan Ayariga stated.

He also explained that “the 24-hour production policy is designed to split Ghana’s workforce into three 3 groups called the 3-shift system, where every Ghanaian will work 8 hours daily.

….The first shift will start work from 6 am to 2 pm and the second shift workers will begin work from 2 pm to 10 pm whilst the third shift will continue from 10 pm to 6 am which makes the 24-hour cycle.”

To him, the main aim of the policy is to increase productivity and create jobs through production, manufacturing, construction, services, and industrialization as well as have a vibrant economy during the day and night.

He believes that when well implemented, the policy will allow flexibility in working hours, reduce corruption, and stop the delays in government businesses.

“Businesses, workers, and companies will be running full capacity in the 3 shift system
and not a situation of putting up two people to run night shift by some institutions as
claimed by my brothers on the other side as 24-hour economy policy.

Restaurants, transport services, security and law enforcement agencies, and hospitals will all run at full capacity under the policy.”

“The 24-hour economy policy offers a range of benefits for employers, employees, and the economy. Jobs will be executed quickly, less traffic in major cities, more jobs can be executed at the same time, less crime, and more customer service.

The shift revolves around every two weeks and continues. I believe the 3 shift system will bring about numerous benefits to the
Ghanaian economy, the workforce, and industry. By allowing employees, and companies
to work 3 shifts that extend into the night, companies can boost productivity, save costs, and increase revenue.”

He maintained that employees can enjoy an improved work-life balance, greater flexibility, and enhanced job satisfaction.

Touching on likely challenges, he noted that while there may be potential challenges in implementing the policy such as safety concerns, Infrastructure challenges, and legal and regulatory issues, these can be addressed
through proper planning, consultation, and preparation.

“We have also seen successful implementation of the 3 shift system by many global companies such as Amazon, IBM, and HSBC, as well as Sri Lanka Companies such as Dialog Axiata, HCL Technologies, and various manufacturing companies.”

Dr Ayariga’s address called upon industry leaders in Ghana to consider implementing the 3-shift system and the 24-hour production and reap the benefits.

“By doing so, we can create a more comprehensive and innovative workforce that can drive the Ghanaian economy towards greater heights In Conclusion the 24-hour economy is not only a practical solution to the economic crisis and challenges we face in Ghana but also an opportunity for companies, businesses to create a sustainable and better working environment for their employees whilst increasing their operational efficiency and productivity.”
