25-year-old lady attempts suicide over cheating allegations

A 25-year-old woman identified as Joyce Quaicoo has attempted suicide over marital problems and cheating accusations by her husband at Samreboi in the Western Region.

The incident happened on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

According to the mother of two, about a year ago, her husband lost one of his legs in a work-related accident, and since then, he has become aggressive towards her.

Joyce disclosed that sometimes, after she returned home from selling, her husband would physically assault her, but for the sake of her children, she chose to stay in the marriage.

According to Joyce, as a result of this development, they did not share a bed; one of them slept in the bed, and the other on the floor.

Narrating the incidents that led to the suicide attempt, Joyce recounted that on Saturday, July 6, 2024, her friend used her phone to call her boyfriend, and subsequently, her friend’s boyfriend continued calling her phone in a bid to reach his girlfriend.

According to Joyce, it was during one of such encounters that her husband snatched her phone from her and started exchanging words with her friend’s boyfriend, accusing him of being Joyce’s lover.

Joyce further narrated that after the brouhaha, her husband sent her packing, and she went to call on some elders to settle the matter, but her husband refused to bury the hatchet.

Out of frustration, she stepped out and bought a litre of a poisonous substance and consumed it.

According to residents, they only saw Joyce fall to the ground and quickly rushed her to the Samartex Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
