35th National Farmers’ Day: MD of Antika Company Is 2nd Runner-up Best Farmer

Accra, Ghana, December 7, 2019//-The Managing Director of Antika Company Limited, Alhaji Abdulai Antiku Seidu has won the Second Runner-up Best Farmer of Ghana 2019 at the 35th edition of the National Farmers’ Day ceremony held in Ho in the Volta Region.

He took home a Nissan Hard Body Pickup and other prizes as the award.

Alhaji Antiku who farms in the Upper West Region through his company provides high-quality seeds, distributes and sells agro-inputs such as fertilizer, agro-chemicals, and simple and affordable farm tools to farmers in Northern part of Ghana.

Commenting on the award, he thanked the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the government for the honour done him and other farmers across the country.

Work of Alhaji Antiku

He has provided many farmers in Ghana especially the Northern part of Ghana namely Upper West, Upper East, Savanna and Northern regions by making farming easy and attractive.

The core business of the Antika Company Limited includes the production of high quality seeds, distribution and sales of agro-inputs such as fertilizer, agro-chemicals, seeds and simple farm tools accessible to small scale farmers at affordable prices.

Its main aim objective is to increase the productivity, incomes and standard of living of among farmers in the regions and the country at large.

The company is on a business mission to enhance access to high quality seeds, supply of fertilizers and agro-chemicals at the door steps of small scale farmers in the upper west region and Ghana as a whole and their services includes; production of high quality seeds, seed processing, sales and distribution of high quality seeds, distribution of fertilizers and agro-chemicals, provision of tractor services and aggregation of farm produce.

The company also partners a number of institutions such as Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), National Seed Trade Association of Ghana (NASTAG), Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (SARI) and Crop Research Institute (CRI), GTZ, International Fertiliser Development Centre of the Agricultural Technology Transfer Project (IFDC-ATTP), among others.

Other award winners

While Charles Gyamfi and Nana Yaw Sarpong Serebour, were adjudged the National Best Farmers and 1st Runner-Up Best Farmer respectively.

What President said

Speaking at the ceremony, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that the country would take delivery of farm machinery, worth $30 million from Brazil in fulfilment of the government’s promise to improve the mechanisation of agriculture.

He said: “The government through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has imported milling machinery for rice, maize and soya from China and Brazil, which are expected to arrive by the middle of next year. This will surely provide appreciable relief to farmers and boost the grain industry.”
