The selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, according a recent survey by research firm, Global InfoAnalytics, has dwindled the voter support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra region.

Six major constituencies in the region has seen major decline in support base for the NPP, including Tema Central, Ablekuma West, Ablekuma North, Ayawaso Central, Ayawaso West Wuogon, and Ledzokuku, following the nomination of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as Nana Poku (NAPO), as running mate.

Whilst 49% of the supporters remain committed to voting for the NPP, the survey says 42% of them say the party will not have their votes due to the nomination of NAPO as Bawumia’s running mate.

The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa, has indicated that the situation calls for an immediate redress since it will impact the fortunes of the party negatively.

“If you look at this, in Greater Accra, those who said they’ll be influenced to vote for the NPP, 49% of the NPP said they’ll vote for the party, 42% NPP voters said they’ll not be influenced in the Greater Accra.

“When it comes to the floating voters, 9% said they’ll be influenced and 74% said they’ll not be influenced, that is worrying. If you don’t make a good impression among the floating voters, you are done,” Mussa Dankwa had said on Channel One TV.
