The Needless and Confusing Complexities of Akufo-Addo’s Tenure
Folks, much has happened in the tenure of Akufo-Addo to make some of us wonder what exactly Team Akufo-Addo has added to the equation to grow Ghana’s democracy.
Let’s be more than frank here to say outright that from Day One, Akufo-Addo’s rise to power has been tainted with impropriety and concerns/worries, fears, apprehensions, quibbles, niggles, and just anything that hasn’t persuaded Ghanaians that Akufo-Addo has outperformed his predecessors to warrant his being retained in power or even to accommodate the ugly noise that he continues to lead the NPP camp to make against John Mahatma (as if no other person has led Ghana before him).
In effect, then, Akufo-Addo has led the NPP pack to cheapen politics, focusing on Mahama everything they deem as a liability. The quantitative aspects aren’ their bother. Meaning? The creation of the nonsensical impression that Mahama is the cause of Ghana’s problems that Akufo-Addo/Bawumia are struggling to solve.
What happened under the British colonial rule, the tenures of Nkrumah, Ankrah, Africa, Busia, Acheampong, Akuffo, Rawlings, Limann, Rawlings again, Kufuor, and Mills don’t matter, according to the Gospel of Akufo-Addo. What malarkey?
Ghana hasn’t made any remarkable progress on the local scene or at the international level under Akufo-Addo. What is there to celebrate but the high spirit of endurance, patience, tolerance, and the forbearance of Ghanaians to allow Akufo-Addo to be in power thus far? Doubters are free to prove me wrong here.
Back into groove. What exactly Akufo-Addo has accomplished to warrant his overt and covert manouevres to seek re-electiona is indeterminable. It is sickening. What is his major accomplishment for which Ghanaians will remember him if he falls down dead today?
After all the empty political gimmicks, what Akufo-Addo has registered so far is terrible. No major development project that Ghanaians haven’t seen before; no reforms in the legal regime (assuming that he is to be respected as a lawyer with an asset to positively shape Ghana’s legal regime); no resolution of horrible cases of outright murder of notable Ghanaians (NPP MP Boakye Danquah Adu, Ahmed Sualey, etc.,).
Terrible happenings under Akufo-Addo that have shut down public reaction/voice/discourse (especially within the context of the “Nana yenka m’asem” syndrome), whereby dissenting voices are slashed off and punished?
Massive corruption by the “family-and-friends” cabal is the hallmark.
Systemic damage has been caused by Team Akufo-Addo to the extent of creating disturbing imbalance everywhere in national life (The destruction of the banking sector, academic parameters, and what-else is disturbing).
Loss of hope for a bright future is worrying. What is the motivation for the Ghanaian to sacrifice his/her lot for Mother Ghana, seeing the raping going on?
Until anybody points me to a different direction to which Akufo-Addo is moving Ghana, I remain adamant and unconvinced that his tenure is not worth celebrating.
Final call? Akufo-Addo is a total failure and disgrace to constitutional democracy and must be rejected anywhere, everywhere, anytime. That is the national call for “communal labour” (SANITATION) to clean the political stables at Election 2020
Interestingly, Akufo-Addo created a Ministry of Sanitation (that isn’t sanitizing the Ghanaian environment) and appointed Rawlings as the Ambassador for Sanitation (whose deep-seated wish is that governance under Akufo-Addo will be sanitized instead). The other aspect of “making Accra the cleanest city in the world” is a major call for Ghanaians to sweep Akufo-Addo out of office. No two ways. No libiliibi-labalaba.
I will expatiate on this big claim in my next post. Till then, the tears continue to flow…..!!!
