NDC Won’t Sign Peace Pact Without Justice for 2020 Election Victims – Former NALAG President tells Peace Council

Former President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Ebenezer Akuokor Frimpong, has issued a stern warning to the Chairman of the Peace Council, Most Reverend Ernest Adu Gyamfi, regarding the signing of a Peace Pact by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Frimpong’s statement comes amidst efforts by the Peace Council to get political parties to commit to peaceful elections.

Frimpong expressed shock at Reverend Gyamfi’s attempt to persuade the NDC to sign the Peace Pact without addressing the unresolved killings during the 2020 elections.

He emphasized that the NDC should not be expected to sign any agreement until President Akufo-Addo takes concrete steps to investigate the deaths of eight individuals during the previous elections.

“I was shocked when I saw the Chairman of the Peace Council, Most Reverend Ernest Adu Gyamfi trying to push NDC to sign a Peace Pact. If he wants NDC to sign the peace pact, then he should let President Akufo-Addo implore an investigation into the 8 people who were killed in the 2020 elections. He should force Nana Addo to fish out the killers.

Frimpong further emphasized that after a thorough investigation into the killings, the families of the deceased must receive fair compensation for their losses. He stressed that this is not only a matter of justice but also a crucial step towards healing and reconciliation.

“Once the investigation is completed, and those responsible are held accountable, the government must take responsibility for the lives lost. The families of the deceased must be compensated adequately for their pain and suffering. This is not just a moral obligation but also a necessary step towards closure and moving forward. But if you don’t tell Nana Addo to investigate the killings, don’t expect NDC to sign any Peace Pact,” Frimpong warned.
