Information filtering in from the Nkawkaw Constituency in the Eastern Region points to plans in motion to replace the ailing parliamentary candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Obo-born Joseph Frempong, 55, and current Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.

When the plan is eventually implemented to rekindle the low morale to winning the seat, The Inquirer is reliably informed that the Managing Director (MD) of the Ghana Publishing Company, David Asante, would be the useful replacement for the MP, going into the 7 December polls.

Born of the 23rd of November 1981, at Kwahu Obomeng, in the Eastern Region of Ghana, is the Managing Director of Ghana Publishing Company Limited (formerly called Ghana Publishing Corporation), a state institution incorporated on March 9, 1965 under Legislative Instrument No. 413, and subsequently amended by L.I. 672 of December 11, 1970 to take over the functions of the former Government Printing Department and the Administration of the Government Free Textbook Schemes.

Joseph Frimpong won the Nkawkaw seat from the Eastern Regional Minister and incumbent MP for Nkawkaw, Eric Kwakye Darfour, ushering him to Parliament 2020, in a primary which recorded the major shocks from the Eastern Region,

Joseph Frimpong won with 206 votes, Eric Kwakye Darfour had 159 votes and Seth Adjei Baah, a former MP for the area, had 156.

However, due to ill health, the members are whispering amongst themselves that unless some rescue effort is timeously scooped; the constituency the seat may fall for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Worried constituency executives, together with regional party chiefs, and acting more Catholic than the Pope in their faith for a miracle barely four months into the crucial elections, have been dithering over the grave electoral permutations.

Intriguingly, the embattled MP aspirant, instead of throwing in the towel for the constituency, region and national headquarters to find a swift replacement continue to hold on, vacating the campaign turf to the freewheeling NDC candidate.

When The Inquirer scouts on the grounds spoke with the Eastern regional chairman, Jeff Konadu, he confirmed the Nkawkaw MP indeed has been under the weather for some time now but he is in his recovery stage.

He debunked rumours that his logistics were not given to him when he visited the eastern regional office to pick his verification form.

He said vehicle and other things for the constituency have been released to him.

Chairman Konadu said the party executives would take decision for an alternative if his condition deteriorates such that he is unable him to do active campaign.

The Nkawkaw is a stronghold for the NPP, although the party lost it to the then-independent candidate, Seth Agyei Baah, in 2008.
