The Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), the Association of Customs House of Agents, the Freight Forwarders Association of Ghana, the Customs Brokers Association of Ghana, and the Coalition of Trade Associations and Manufacturers, have announced that they will embark on a protest on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

The protest per a statement released on September 20, 2024, is a demonstration of the exploitative practices of shipping lines at the country’s ports.

According to GIFF and the Coalition of Trade Associations, shipping lines continue to impose unjustifiable fees such as container cleaning charges and demurrage on weekends and holidays, evacuation fees among others while pegging the local fees to the US dollar which is a clear violation of the Bank of Ghana violations.

The associations note that the shipping lines’ practices have significantly harmed their businesses.
