The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensah has announced to stakeholders that the country’s electoral roll has been purged of all discrepancies.

She made this known to political parties and the media during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting where the various political parties were afforded the opportunity to present issues they may have spotted in the voter register.

Jean used the occasion to rubbish allegations that the discrepancies in the provisional voters register were aimed at disenfranchising voters in certain parts of the country as she indicated that it cut across all regions.

She also addressed concerns about the NDC’s demand for a forensic audit of the register, noting that the party had failed to present her outfit with data about the discrepancies they claim to have found in the register after a request.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, over the last few weeks, there had been discussions in the public space as to the credibility or otherwise of the voters register. The largest opposition party, the NDC, has alleged that the discrepancies they have detected in the provisional voters register made it unfit for the 2024 election. They have in this regard called for a forensic audit of the provisional voters register.”

She continued, “Following a meeting called at the instance of the NDC, to discuss the discrepancies detected by the party, the NDC presented the Commission with varying categories of issues they had identified with the provisional register. At the meeting, they highlighted a few examples of each category. Following this, the Commission requested the full data from the NDC with the assurance that it would investigate the data presented and present a report of its findings to the NDC within a week.

“…That notwithstanding, we requested the data for the sole purpose of addressing each issue case by case in order to allay the fears of the NDC and put them at rest. Unfortunately, we have not received the data and the debate as to the credibility or otherwise of provisional voters register has continued.”
