The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lambasted the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to provide evidence to support its claims of a bloated voter register during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Tuesday, October 1.

The meeting, convened by the Electoral Commission (EC) at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, aimed to address concerns surrounding the 2024 voters’ register.

Justin Frimpong Kodua, General Secretary of the NPP, expressed disappointment that the NDC failed to demonstrate any discrepancies in the register.

“They started talking about propaganda matters… Is that why we came here? We came here based on the several allegations that you have made. Why did you run away? Why is the NDC running away,” he noted.

Background of the Controversy

The NDC had alleged that the register contains ineligible voters and other inaccuracies, prompting a nationwide protest on September 17 to demand a forensic audit of the electoral roll.

The NPP, however, maintains that the NDC’s claims are baseless and aimed at destabilizing the electoral process.

IPAC Meeting: A Missed Opportunity

The IPAC meeting provided a platform for the NDC to substantiate its claims, but according to the NPP, the opposition party failed to provide any concrete evidence.

This has led to accusations that the NDC is engaging in propaganda to discredit the electoral process.

Implications for the 2024 Elections

The controversy surrounding the voter register has significant implications for the 2024 elections.

The NPP’s accusations of propaganda may erode public trust in the NDC’s claims, while the opposition party’s failure to provide evidence may undermine its credibility.
