Ho Tennis Club triumphs in 2024 Donewell-Asogli tennis tournament

A superb performance by the Club in the competitive tournament subdued their opponents in the annual competition.

The Ho Tennis Club (HTC) has emerged winner of the 2024 Donewell-HTC Asogli Tennis Tournament, which took place at the Ho Tennis Court.

The tournament forms part of activities to commemorate the annual “Asogli Teza” or Asogli Yam Festival by the chiefs and people of Asogli in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region.

The participating teams include Ho, Tesano Depot, Tarkwa Goldfields, and Tema Premier Tennis Clubs engaged in stiff contests to showcase their prowess in the sport.

The Ho Tennis Club (HTC) dominated their opponents in their matches, winning the Ladies Double, the Men’s Double, and the Mixed Double, in 7-5, 7-5, 7-4, 7-6(6), and 7-3 respectively when they met Premier Club from Tema.

In the other semis, Depot Tennis Club from Tesano defeated Tarkwa 3-2. Ho Tennis Club defeated all three clubs making it 3-0 to be crowned champions.

Their home advantage and teamwork paid off, securing the coveted title, which was then handed over to one of the club’s patrons, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, the Vice Chancellor of the Ho Technical University (HTU).

 

The Chairman of HTC, Mr. Joseph Dzamesi, expressed joy at the team’s victory, stating that the achievement stems from the Club’s zeal to nurture and develop talents apart from playing social tennis.

He attributed the success to his team’s hard work and dedication.

“We’re thrilled to have won this prestigious tournament, especially as the hosts. It’s a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication.”

“It has been an incredible competition, this means that as a club we have come of age and we can only continue to build upon it to ensure that we are not just a social tennis club but a club that develops talents”, he said.

 

The Chairman of Depot Tennis Club, Tesano, Bilal Bin -Hassan whose side came second commended the organizers for a good show and expressed delight at his team’s second-place finish.

The Tarkwa Goldfields Tennis Club placed third, whereas Tema Premier Tennis took the fourth position. Donewell Insurance, the tournament sponsor, reaffirmed its commitment with a three-year partnership with HTC

For the past 15 years, the Donewell-HTC Asogli Tennis Tournament has been a platform for tennis development in the Volta Region, vis-a-vis promoting the rich culture of Asogli citizens in the Ho Municipality.
