The leadership of the Cocoa Carriers Association has directed its members at the Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi depots of the Cocoa Marketing Company Limited to embark on an indefinite sit-down strike starting Monday, October 7, 2024.

The strike is in protest against unresolved issues related to their conditions of service.

This move follows a similar strike in 2022, during which the Association demanded wage increases and better working conditions.

That strike resulted in thousands of bags of cocoa beans being left unattended in various Cocoa Marketing Company Limited warehouses, disrupting operations significantly.

Raymond Atanga Abobiga, the National Chairman of the Cocoa Carriers Association, confirmed the directive and called on all members to fully participate in the strike.

“We will report to work but remain at the gates of the warehouses without working until our demands are addressed,” he said.

Abobiga emphasized that the strike is not aimed at any individual but is a necessary step in fighting for fair treatment and improved conditions for workers.

He urged the management of COCBOD and the company’s directors to take their concerns seriously and engage with them to resolve the issues at hand.

He confirmed the directives while speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi News on Sunday, October 6.
