Speaker Bagbin’s leadership has enhanced Parliament’s integrity – MP

The vacant seat controversy in Ghana’s parliament is a significant development sparking intense debate about the country’s democratic process.

However, the Member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi East of the Western Region, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah has asserted that the country’s democracy has achieved another commendable milestone following the declaration of four MPs’ seats vacant by the Speaker.

According to the NDC member of Parliament, Speaker Alban Bagbin’s leadership in managing the controversy has enhanced Parliament’s integrity, and he expressed confidence that Bagbin will continue to uphold the legislative process’s independence.

Tension had been building in Parliament after three NPP seats and one NDC seat were declared vacant on Thursday 17, making the NDC the majority side.

However, on Tuesday morning, Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party staged a walkout after MPs from the National Democratic Congress occupied their seats.

In an interview with a media house in Accra, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah revealed that the NDC Caucus’s reaction on the floor of Parliament was to resist “oppressor’s rule” in the interest of Ghanaians.

He blamed President Akufo-Addo/Bawumia’s administration for bad governance despite the resources available to them.

He cited that Ghanaians have witnessed an ailing economy and suffocating hardship over the past eight years.

Amankwah emphasized the need for a strong, constructive opposition party like the NDC to prevent the NPP from pushing their agenda through Parliament.

He reiterated the NDC’s commitment to upholding democracy and fostering a brighter future for all Ghanaians, urging citizens to support NDC MPs in protecting the country from collapse.
