Delivery Beds: Sunyani SDA Hospital pleads for Government Support
Sunyani SDA hospital in the Bono Region is pleading to the government and members of the public assist it with some facilities necessary for health delivery, especially delivery bed.
The maternity and the Neonatal units of the hospital are stressed up due to inadequate equipment for quality health to the people in its catchment area. The hospital is preferred destination for expectant mothers as well as mothers of babies with special medical needs.
In 2019 the facility has recorded 68,868 patients at its Out Patient Department (OPD). It has also recorded two maternal deaths and two neonatal deaths in the same year.
Interestingly, there is only one delivery bed and one monitor at the labour ward and this has become a major headache for both management and patients.
The maternity unit recorded 1,087 deliveries in 2019 and statistics from Neonatal units indicates that Neonatal jaundice makes up 20 percent of neonatal cases recorded at the facility .
Medical superintendent in-charge, Dr Charles Wired Oppong said there are plans to expand the facilities at the hospital. He said they are currently facing financial difficulties but hoped the government and other departments of health would come a to their aid soon.
