GHC45m secured to revamp Western Region Centre for National Culture – Agyapa Mercer
“I visited the Center for National Culture last Wednesday and met with the contractor. We’ve secured a commencement certificate worth 45 million cedis from the Ministry of Finance”.
The Western Regional Centre for National Culture is finally getting the revival it deserves.
After years of neglect, the current Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, made a promise during his media interview in Takoradi on July 29, 2024, at Nkontompo during the commissioning of the community center, to restore the center to its former glory.
“I visited the Center for National Culture last Wednesday and met with the contractor. We’ve secured a commencement certificate worth 45 million cedis from the Ministry of Finance”.
“Work will commence within the next week or two, and we’re committed to completing the project before December. To those who doubt my progress, I say: actions speak louder than words. We’re delivering on our promises, and results will soon be evident.” He mentioned.
And it looks like he’s keeping his word. During a tour of the site, contractors were seen working tirelessly to complete the rehabilitation work before December 2024. This is a significant development, especially considering that previous governments and ministers, including Hon Catherine Afeku and Mohammed Awal, had failed to deliver on their promises.
The National Commission on Culture, under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, has a clear vision to preserve and promote Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
With 45 million cedis secured for the project, the Western Regional Center for National Culture is poised to become a vibrant hub for cultural activities once again. In a candid exclusive interview, Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts Andrew Egyapa Mercer shared the inside scoop on the progress of the Western Regional Center for National Culture’s rehabilitation.
“As I previously mentioned a couple of months ago that we have received the commencement certificate from the Ministry of Finance for the project’s completion. We’ve since completed procurement and awarded the contract. With all necessary approvals in place, the contractor is now on site, making steady progress”
“Yesterday’s report indicates that roofing replacement is complete, and plumbers, painters and electricians are actively working”
“The contract duration is six months, but the contractor has committed to delivering the project by December, ahead of schedule. We’re optimistic that they’ll meet this commitment, enabling our creative arts industry to utilize this infrastructure soon.” He explained
This revival will not only boost the local economy but also provide a platform for artists, musicians, and performers to showcase their talents. The center will likely feature exhibits, performances, and workshops that celebrate Ghana’s diverse cultural traditions.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the project is completed on time, and the Western Regional Center for National Culture regains its status as a premier cultural destination in Ghana
