Parliament: NDC Majority Caucus pledges to Prioritize Ghanaian Interests as the House resumes tomorrow

At a press conference held today, the Chief Whip of the NDC Majority Group in Parliament, Governs Kwame Agbodza, outlined the party’s plans for the upcoming parliamentary meeting..

Addressing members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) in Parliament House, Agbodza confirmed that the NDC caucus will attend the parliamentary sitting as directed by the Speaker, taking their rightful place on the majority side of the chamber. He emphasized the party’s commitment to prioritizing the interests of the Ghanaian people in their legislative agenda.

“We shall be attending upon the house, as directed by Mr. Speaker. We shall be taking our Seat in the Chamber in accordance with the majority side which we are in Parliament, and we shall be open to supporting our colleagues in the minority to conduct businesses that are in the interest of the people of this country,” Agbodza stated.

The Chief Whip assured that the NDC majority will not use their numerical advantage to frustrate government business, but rather, they will cooperate with the minority NPP group on initiatives that are beneficial to Ghanaians.

“As long as the business is in the interest, interest of improving a lot of Ghanaians, they can count on the majority NDC caucus in Parliament to support those initiatives, to pass those things that would help the people of this country,” Agbodza emphasized.

Addressing concerns about potential tensions in Parliament, Agbodza dismissed the notion, stating that the NDC caucus has a history of peacefully resolving issues and has no plans for any physical confrontations.

“Nobody is planning to do anything. In any case, what will be the reason for anybody to do that? The NDC is a majority, and the reason we have majority, you know it because three people from the NPP side have conducted themselves in a way that automatically kicks them out of Parliament,” he explained.

The Chief Whip reiterated the NDC’s commitment to upholding the health and authority of Parliament as the symbol of Ghana’s democracy, emphasizing that the party will not toy with the well-being of the legislative institution.

As the nation approaches the December 7 elections, the NDC Majority Caucus has pledged to focus on serving the interests of the Ghanaian people, setting aside any personal or partisan agenda in the process.
