NDC Parliamentary Candidate Meets U.S. Ambassador to Discuss Healthcare Expansion

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Afigya Kwabre North in the Ashanti Region, Emmanuel Jackson Agumah, has held a meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in Kumasi. The discussion centered on opportunities to improve healthcare infrastructure in Afigya Kwabre North.

As the President and Founder of the BUVA Foundation, Mr. Agumah shared his vision for a more resilient healthcare system and emphasized the need for strategic partnerships to address pressing community challenges.

“The Ambassador assured me of linking me to organizations that can help build more health centers,” Mr. Agumah revealed.

Mr. Agumah, a 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow under President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative, highlighted the importance of strong leadership and leveraging international networks to create local impact.

“The fellowship taught me to use my expertise and connections to improve lives,” he noted. “Good leadership is essential for reducing corruption, fostering local production, and achieving sustainable development.”

He urged young leaders to prioritize integrity, transparency, and accountability, stressing that Ghana needs visionary individuals to drive progress.

Call for Structural Reforms

In addition to healthcare, Mr. Agumah advocated for economic policy reforms aimed at reducing Ghana’s dependence on imports and promoting local production.

He also called for the introduction of public asset declarations for officials to enhance transparency and deter corruption.

“In Western democracies, asset declarations ensure accountability and discourage leaders from accumulating wealth through corrupt means,” he remarked.
