Africa must Unite in the Fight against Covid-19 – President of GHAMOSA
The President of Ghana Morocco Old Students Association (GHAMOSA), Peter Panyin Anaman, has called on all African leaders to unite in the fight against the novel coronavirus. He warned of a lost fight against the virus if African leaders fail to work together to fight the virus. Peter Panyin Anaman was reiterating the need for African leaders to support King Mohammed VI, the King of Morocco in his call for a joint African COVID-19 Response.
The Moroccan King has proposed an African leaders initiative aimed at establishing an operational framework to accompany African countries in their various phases of managing the pandemic. This is a pragmatic and action-oriented initiative, enabling the sharing of experiences and best practices to address the health, economic and social impact of the pandemic.
Peter Panyin Anaman explained that, the continent appears relatively safe, but the Western agencies are predicting doom for us, hence the need for the continent to develop our own models to project our fate and embark on a continental campaign to mitigate the consequences. He added that there is no place safer for Africans than Africa and that there is no better time than this for African leaders to be working together in strengthening health systems, sharing information on alternative medicine, researchers communicating with each other and free trade movement on the continent.
This pandemic is a test which pushed us to strengthen our solidarity with each other. No single country on the continent will be safe if there is a threat of this virus on any African soil. If one African country fails in this fight against COVID-19, the entire continent has failed, he concluded.
