Testing for Covid-19: Govt plans sanctions for Airlines

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says government is going to sanction airlines that do not check passengers’ 72 hours negative PRC test before arriving at the Kotoka International Airport.

In his 19th address to the nation last night on measures being taken by the government against the spread of Covid-19, the President said that Ghana has detected 172 positive cases from arriving passengers at the airport. These cases were recorded out of some 54,000 passengers who have arrived after the ease in travel restrictions.

“The health authorities are going to intensify follow-up processes of arriving passengers, even when they have tested negative to help ensure that we have ruled out any possible infection that may have occurred during the period of embarkation and disembarkation” he said.

As of November 9, Ghana’s case count is 1,156 with 198 recorded new cases.

The president also added that the Ghana Infectious Disease Centre at the Ga East Hospital will be opened in a few days to cater and provide treatment for the sick. In addition, adequate medicines, equipments and personal protective equipments will be provided to the health workers to enable them attend to patients.
