As DCE For Ejura Runs Away From Town With His Family

Suspicion has greeted President Akufo-Addo’s order to the Interior Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery, to launch an investigation into the mini massacre of civilians by Soldiers at Ejura-Sekyeredumase in the Ashanti Region, leading to three deaths and several gunshot injuries.

In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, said “the Interior Minister is to provide a detailed report from the Inquiry, with recommendations for appropriate action, within ten days, i.e by 9th July 2021, to President Akufo-Addo.”

However, critics say the alleged actors around the massacre make the ordered probe to be tainted even before it starts.

Indeed the Minority in Parliament has rejected President Akufo-Addo’s prescription and are calling for an independent probe into circumstances that led to the gruesome shooting of civilians in Ejura by fully armed soldiers.

On Tuesday, a detachment of heavily armed soldiers alongside police officers indiscriminately fired live bullets into the procession of mourners in Ejura who had just finished burying one Ibrahim Muhammed, aka Macho Kaaka.

Macho Kaaka was reportedly killed by a mob believed to be linked to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for highlighting social ills and corruption of social media. His murderers and their conspirators are alleged to have said it was necessary to get rid of him because his exposition of the poor state of social infrastructure in Ejura was making the Akufo-Addo administration unpopular.

According to reports, two bodyguards of the Municipal Chief Executive of Ejura Bamba Salisu, are reported to have been involved in the lynching, after they had reportedly called him to warn Macho Kaaka about dire repercussions for his social activism.

Incidentally, Bamba heads the security council of the area and had control over the security agencies there and had reportedly been quite apprehensive towards the activism done by Macho Kaaka.

Incidentally, the chief of Ejura, Barima Osei Hwedie II who also works as the Head of Protocol at the office of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia was in 2020 chastised for showing his open bias towards the governing NPP by endorsing President Akufo-Addo’s second term, even though chief are not supposed to openly express their partisan biases.

All of the web of connection between the chief and political office holders with a direct interest in the activism in Macho Kaaka has prompted cynics to conclude that the said probe would be a window dressing by the Akufo-Addo administration once more.

The government has been fingered for showing no empathy towards people who have been brutally killed by its security agents since December 2018, starting with the Ayawaso West Wuogon shooting by party thugs conscripted into the illegal SWAT unit at the National Security Secretariat.

So far, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of the Macho Kaaka

Police in the Ashanti Region picked up two persons identified as Ibrahim Isaka and Fuseini Alhassan on Monday, June 28 following police intelligence.
