His tweet read: “…. And all the companies that advertise imported Rice on Citi FM withdrew their ads and canceled the contracts. Big deal? Ghana wins!”

The station as part of activities marking its 15th anniversary announced a new project to get Ghanaians to take up subsistence farming, and also consider it a viable business that can empower them economically.

The project, dubbed ‘Operation Feed Yourself’, is culled from the namesake famous agricultural program administered in Ghana under military general and head-of-state Ignatius Kutu Acheampong.

The main objective behind the introduction of the campaign was to revitalize the spirit of farming and agribusiness in Ghanaians.

It will provide the needed avenue for Ghanaians to be self-sufficient and reduce the reliance on imports to sustain the populace.

The patronize made in Ghana campaign was also launched recently by the station, a campaign that has gone viral on social media with the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah throwing his support behind it.

“Citi 97.3fm @citi973fm and Citi TV @cititvgh have just launched a Buy Ghana Rice Campaign.”

“It is a well-intended initiative that has the potential to fuel our Agric growth agenda. I and the Ministry of Information team support this campaign and encourage you to support it too.”

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah also said his Ministry is well behind the campaign to ensure that Ghanaians patronize local rice production.

Meanwhile, the Agric Ministry has announced it will establish a desk at the ministry to provide information on the local rice business.

The renowned radio manager had also used his social media pages to encourage Ghanaians to support the campaign saying: “Please oo I have appointed myself a Campaigner for the consumption of locally produced rice in order to drastically reduce government’s spend on rice imports by at least 50% in 2 years. Wish me well.”

“Let’s help in our small way to build this Ghana for it’s the only country where you are not called a stranger, ” another of the tweet read.
