IGP Interdicts Two Police Officers For Killing A Civilian
The Inspector-General of Police has ordered the immediate interdiction of No. 43587 G/CPL Samuel Boamah and No. 48440 G/L/CPL Issifu Tahiru all of Rovers/Kasoa Division in the Central Region.
A statement issued by the Police Public Affairs Directorate on Monday, 9th December 2019 said the two were interdicted for their alleged involvement of the murder of a civilian at a drinking spot at Kasoa.
Police has begun investigations into the incident and the public should exercise restraint.
The two, Lance Corporal Issifu Tahiru and Corporal Samuel Boamah, were said to have had a confrontation with some customers at JVC, a popular drinking spot at Kasoa main roundabout where they had gone to drink and shot and killed Musah Mohammed in the ensuing skirmish.
According to the Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Irene Oppong, at about 12.30 a.m on Friday, the Kasoa Divisional Police Command had a distress call that Corporal Boamah of the Kasoa Rovers Unit had shot and killed a civilian at Kasoa.
She said when the police proceeded to the scene, the police gathered that the two had gone to the spot to drink with Tahiru holding a side arm gun loaded with 13 live ammunition.
She said in the course of drinking there was a confrontation with some customers and Tahiru pulled out the gun in order to frighten the crowd but Boamah snatched the gun from Tahiru and fired it killing Musah Mohammed.
DSP Oppong said both policemen have been detained after the pistol with nine rounds of ammunition was retrieved from them.
She said the police are handling the case as a murder case and investigations into the case.
