Akyem Mafia’s Dirty Agenda to Reward Ofori-Atta Defenders foiled
But for the intervention, hardworking party members would have rather been axed.
President Akufo-Addo and his blood-relatives loosely referred to as the ‘Akyem Mafia’ have had a musical chair agenda they hatched aborted by some top members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The agenda was intended to retain supporters of Ken Ofori Atta and rather push out those who hatched the exit agenda against the Finance Minister.
Stoppers were put in the way of the Akyem Mafia by the top hierarchy of the NPP who saw in it destructive an agenda which would not inure to the interest of the party.
But for the intervention, hardworking party members would have rather been axed.
The year 2022 was terrible for Mr. Ofori-Atta as there were calls from both sides in Parliament for his sack following his poor handling of affairs as the purse holder of Ghana.
The whole agenda to get the finance minister out was started by some Members of Parliament (MPs) from his own party.
The Minority side went further to file a Censure Motion against Mr. Ofori-Atta but that plan failed as the Majority side failed to be part of the vote.
Certain figures within the NPP MPs rose to the defence of the embattled finance minister and the Akyem Mafia wanted to use the well-orchestrated game plan to reward those elements.
The whole plot was designed and dumped on the First Gentleman of the land for it to take the semblance of a reshuffle but it backfired.
Although, the NPP as a party had made it clear that it was going to push for the reshuffle of some government appointees, it was discovered the manner it took would not productive.
Nana Addo’s Position On Reshuffle
President Akufo-Addo had earlier made it clear that he was satisfied with the performance of appointees as he evaluates their work consistently.
‘’If the output measures expectations, then I don’t have any strong reason to heed to the call to do reshuffle,’’ he stated.
The President had added that the calls for reshuffle sometimes had ulterior motives, adding “The calls come for all kinds of reasons, NDC wanting to destabilize the government is one. There are people who are also looking for jobs.’’
