Election 2024: Okaikoi Central NDC united, ready and poised for Victory

Hundreds of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Okaikoi Central constituency last Sunday, January 22 poured onto the streets in a unitary health walk. It was organized by the newly elected constituency executives of the party led by Chairman Kwame Lebene Zancour.

The walk brought together all aspirants in the recently held constituency executive elections and their supporters in a show of unity to indicate that the constituency is ready and united for the 2024 general elections.

Speaker after speaker reiterated the need for each and every member of the party to work hard in their localities by mobilizing support for whoever would eventually emerges as the party’s parliamentary candidate and presidential candidate on May 13, when the party goes to the polls.

National Organizer of the NDC, Comrade Joseph Yamin, who was the special guest at the walk, was very impressed with the attendance. Addressing the gathering in front of the constituency party office at Fadama, he said “indeed, if the NDC would win the 2024 elections we have to show everybody that we are ready. This means we need to attend every programme organized by constituency, regional and national executives. When we come out like this then it signals to everyone that we are ready. I can look at this number facing me like this and declare the Okaikoi Central seat as a possible winning constituency in 2024.”

“If the people in this constituency cannot see victory in this crowd then there is something wrong with their eyes. But if we are to win then we need to work and work harder. Let us see a tripling of this number next time. Work with the regional and constituency to ensure that 2024 is a win for JM and all,” he stated. He also urged other constituencies to emulate the initiative of the Okaikoi Central constituency so there would be unity ahead of 2024.

“Let us go into the parliamentary elections with all the seriousness it deserves. Let us ensure that at the end we don’t leave any crack. Let us do campaign devoid of insults and acrimony because there is no time for reconciliation after the parliamentary election. Let us have a peaceful parliamentary election so that after that we can move straight into business.

“Aspirants should also take note that we are not going to entertain any negative campaign in selecting who our candidate should be. We won’t also entertain any other form of selection. If you are qualified, you are qualified,” he noted.

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, in his remarks said the unity walk has given a clear indication that the Okaikoi Central constituency is ready to work for victory in the impending general elections.

“A critical analysis of the parliamentary election results for the Okaikoi Central constituency has shown that in most times that the NPP has beaten the NDC, the difference did not exceed 15%. I believe that all those who have declared their interest to contest the seat are all capable, and so when we all unite and put up a good fight, we can easily win this seat.

“Over the years we cannot tell what this NPP government has done for this constituency. Zero achievement when it comes to parliamentary and zero achievements when it comes to presidential. We are all witnesses to the bad governance going on. When we have peace and unity, we can win the seat and increase our votes for the president,” he noted.

Greater Accra regional organizer of the NDC, Comrade Anthony Nukpenu, on his part urged members of the party to stop the bickering and get down to the grounds because there is a lot of work there.

“We are starting the ward elections this week and we require all of you to go down to the branch level and work for the party. Let us forget issues of the past and focus on the next victory. Let us support the elected executives. You can support whoever you want to support in the parliamentary primaries but after it is all said and done let us unite again with love and seek victory in election 2024,” he stated.

The Regional youth organizer, Amos Blessing Armose was hopeful that the Okaikoi Central parliamentary seat would be counted among the winning seats in parliament come 2025.

“But, to achieve that aim depends largely on we the youth. Party is opening nominations in February, all youths have the right to support any candidate of their choice, but let’s do so in decorum. Let there be no acrimony. Any aspirant is a potential candidate and for that matter a potential MP, and so let’s be guided. Let’s channel our energy into campaigning rather than insulting people on social media platforms. Also, in the impending Ward and Assembly elections, let us unite behind whomever the party decides on. I can assure you that anybody who’ll go contrary to this directive will be suspended from the party. Let us remain peaceful as we prepare for election 2024,” he stated.
