Pressure mounts on NPP to denounce the barbaric actions of Farouk Aliu Mahama in Yendi

The New Patriotic Parliamentary Primaries in Yendi ended chaotically on Saturday – as a simple counting process became a battle ground for commotion and unrest amidst the throwing of stones, bottles and the scattering of electoral materials, among others.

Reports indicate that the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Area Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama – son of the late vice president of Ghana, Aliu Mahama was behind the barbaric acts that led to a serious physical assault on a Journalist with Citi TV/FM. The MP reportedly slapped the journalist, held his shirt to his neck, punched him and threw him into the crowd where some of his supporters further pounced on him and beat him to pulp.

According to reports, it took the intervention of security officers present to rescue the poor reporter from the grips of the agitated NPP Thugs

In view of the development, some Ghanaians are piling up pressure on the New Patriotic Party to condemn the wicked act perpetuated by one of its MPs and further initiate disciplinary actions against him.

The reporter explained to his colleagues on live radio on Monday morning that the law marker personally assaulted and brutalized him while he the reporter was covering live proceedings in the constituency during the party’s parliamentary primaries on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

Some members of the public, as well as leading figures in Ghana’s Democratic and governance space who spoke with this portal in an interview condemned the act and expressed deep concerns over the unfortunate incident, denouncing it as an antediluvian act.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has described the assault on the journalist who was discharging his duties as boorish and vulgar. In a statement the Association says it is flabbergasted that such a barbaric act was engineered by no less a person than a legislator. It has threatened to sue the party if no action is taken.
