Ho-Dome, Warriors of Asogli State smoke peace pipe
The Chiefs and People of Ho-Dome and the Warriors of Asogli State in the Volta Region have reconciled after more than three decades of a protracted dispute.
The unification process which began about two years ago was climaxed with a pacification rite to appease their ancestors to restore the peace that has eluded them over the years.
Speaking at the ceremony in Ho, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede congratulated his people on the feat and expressed hope that the peace accord will eliminate petty disputes in the area to engender development.
Ho-Dome(h) is a significant division of the Asogli State and its chiefs and people were the ancient warriors during pre-colonial days. However, the unification of the people of Ho Dome(h) and Ho-Bankoe in 1989 after a protracted dispute, rather divided Ho Dome into two, one faction in favour and the other against the unification.
The division is said to have caused instability in the community, impeding progress and development for a long time.
Though there was no bloodshed, the people of Ho-Dome(h) on their own accord signed a memorandum of understanding for lasting peace after many attempts by groups and prominent people to resolve the impasse failed.
The Dufiaga of Ho-Dome(h), and Avafiaga (Warlord) of Asogli State, Togbe Adzie Lakle Howusu prayed that such misfortune should not befall the community again and warned that detractors who will attempt to foment trouble will be dealt with.
He called on his people to sacrifice for the community’s development and resist tendencies that will jeopardize the future of the young and next generations.
The Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede said the unification rite has offered hope and encouragement to all the divisions of Asogli State to bury their differences for progress.
He urged his people to be productive to build upon the solid foundation and legacies laid by their forebears.
Togbe Afede announced that the entire Asogli State will celebrate a mammoth Teza (Yam Festival) next year to commemorate the historic unification. There was a groundbreaking, for the construction of the Ho-Dome Unity Junior High School Complex project to seal the unification.
The school is expected to facilitate, ultra-modern classrooms, a library, computer and science labs.
