Government imposes curfew on Sampa over chieftaincy disputes

Government through the Ministry of Interior, on the advice of the Bono Regional Security Council has imposed a Curfew on Sampa Township in Jaman North District of the Bono Region following some chieftaincy disputes.

The curfew according to a statement signed by the Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey will take effect today Thursday April 18, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 am each day until further notice.

On March 29, 2024, four persons were shot dead in a renewed chieftaincy dispute at Sampa.

The renewed disputes saw the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC) deploy a contingent of police and military personnel to enforce law and order in the area.

Since then, the Dormaahene and other traditional leaders have called on parties to settle all issues for peace to reign.

The government has also urged Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances into ensuring peace in the area.

Following the curfew, the Ministry has banned all persons living in the area from carrying any form of offensive weapons.
