Ghana: Delegations to PAP and ECOWAS Parliaments approved

The Parliament of Ghana, on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, approved the composition of Membership of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) and the ECOWAS Parliament based on an approved ratio of 138:137 following the equal strength of the two major political parties represented in the 8th Parliament.

The agreed ratio makes up the five membership of the Pan African Parliament delegation to include three Members from the Majority Caucus and two Members from the Minority Caucus. The eight membership ECOWAS Parliament delegation also consists of four members for the Majority Caucus and four members for the Minority Caucus.

Membership of the PAP delegation would be led by First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Wusu, with Frank Annor Dompreh, Ophelia Hayford, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, and Alhaji Collins Dauda as members.

The Parliamentary delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament would be led by Alexander Afenyo Markin, with Kwesi Ameyaw Kyremeh, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzra, Mousa Ayaba Abdul Aziz, Mahama Ayariga, Joseph Kwaku Adu, Sampson Ahi, and Ladi Ayamba as members.

Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, in sending off the Delegations to the PAP in South Africa and the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja tasked them to fly high the flag of Ghana at the continental and the sub-regional legislative levels respectively.

He said Members of Ghana’s Parliamentary delegations have always been noted to perform very well in their duties and therefore he is expecting the reconstituted delegation to the two legislative bodies to continue in the footsteps of their predecessors.

“These are gentlemen and ladies going to represent us on these important bodies. I can only pray that they continue to keep the flag of Ghana flying high. Ghanaian Members have always performed very well and I will continue to urge that you give them your maximum support because they are going to represent our beloved country Ghana. And on your behalf, I congratulate all the Members for this recognition and honour,” the Speaker observed.

Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in the Ghanaian Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, urged the delegations to always report back to the country because there have been some situations in the past where reports were not forthcoming. He also wished the delegations well.
