Information gathered by Onua News sources indicate that although the arrest was the immediate cause of the residents’ action, beneath the surface was simmering resentments and grievances that had been built against the chief.

At a press conference held Thursday, September 05, 2024, they accused the chief of collecting revenue from the people without accounting for it.

“This is not what we wanted but we are not content with what was happening in this town. He was pulling down people’s houses with land guards. As we speak the land guards are working. The Committee Chairman’s crime is that an Assemblyman from Barekese came to him to join him and rob people of their lands which he refused. So the chief developed hatred for him when the issue got to him.

“We have three public toilets here and each is supposed to pay a GHC150.00 per month but for four years now, he has not made them render any account. We also collect money from people before they bury their dead relatives as a means to generate funds for the community but he has not accounted for it,” one of them disclosed.

A murmur of discontent rippled through the crowd as they recalled the previous committee members’ unexplained disappearance of GHC700,000.00 allegedly pocketed by the chief.

The residents, through an elderly woman, with two eggs and a bottle of local gin, invoked the ancestors, calling upon the spirits to witness their plight. “We curse you, Chief Nana Okofo Amoapem Brenya, and you, Hon. Robecca Yeboah, for your injustices against us. May your actions be returned unto you, until you make amends and restore peace to our community.”
