Eurabena’s call come as a results of the aftermath of the re-collation exercise the Electoral Commission of Ghana on last Saturday 21st December, 2024, where results of all seven out of the nine outstanding parliamentary constituencies which were announced went in favor of the New Patriotic Party.
The National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North Constituency, Eurabena Aubynn, has called on the Judiciary Arm of Government to maintain its independence in addressing recent issues from the just-ended December 7th elections.
Eurabena’s call come as a results of the aftermath of the re-collation exercise the Electoral Commission of Ghana on last Saturday 21st December, 2024, where results of all seven out of the nine outstanding parliamentary constituencies which were announced went in favor of the New Patriotic Party.
Addressing the media, she stated that failing to uphold the earlier parliamentary elections results in her constituency which went in her favor could set a dangerous precedent
The NDC’s Parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North constituency, stressed that the Judiciary must remain impartial and independent in its dealings, free from any external influences or pressures.
“All of this happening dent our electoral laws and processes. The judiciary shouldn’t get involved in such anomaly because they should act as independent bodies, the people must have confidence in them. We should be able to run to them when we feel compelled to and we expect them to give verdicts that’s fair and acceptable to either side.
“I was in court when our lawyer was trying to place an injunction on the whole process so that the right things will be done. The evidence tended at the law courts wasn’t even looked at but the judge went ahead and threw all of us out of the courts.
“When these things keep happening because a group of people are in power and are in charge of affairs then we ask ourselves, when power changes hands and another group decides to revert and do the same, or counter, where does this take our nation? We only have one Ghana.” She said
Eurabena Aubynn, urged all and sundry to respect the electoral laws to ensure a peaceful environment.
“Let us respect our own electoral laws, let us respect the will of the people, let us respect laid down procedures and acceptable practices so that we can have some peace of mind to go about our daily lives and affairs.
“Politics is not the end of the world. I mean, going into a contest, I’m sure every mature person will go into a contest with a win attitude but then you should make room if it doesn’t go as expected too but in the case of Ablikuman North and the NPP, it’s beginning to look like an insult to the conscience of the people of Ablikuman North.”
She urged the Judiciary to take a firm stand in addressing any issues that may arise from the elections and to ensure that justice is served.
