Absence of most industry players at Africa Cinema Summit is ‘disheartening’ – Gloria Sarfo

Ghanaian actress, Gloria Sarfo has expressed disgust at the absence of some stakeholders at the second edition of the Africa Cinema Summit held in Accra.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, Gloria Sarfo described the situation as “disheartening” for industry players not to be present at a summit geared towards fostering development of African movie industry.

She admitted that although some actors and producers may be on set and shooting films, time could have been made for such an important occasion.

“We’ve really learnt a lot. Like I said its all about Africa, projecting our local languages and also our cinema markets. It’s really disheartening, I think it’s a better word to realize that most of our industry players were not here.

“You remember yesterday when Kule was talking and he was asking where are your movie producers? Where are the actors? And it was so embarrassing that there was silence in the entire auditorium.

“It’s possible that most of them maybe filming, maybe on set at the moment but trust me, we could have also made some time for this, for the industry,” she bemoaned.

Idris Elba is currently in Ghana for the second edition of the Africa Cinema Summit which begun on October 7 and will end on Thursday, October 10.

The summit being held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra was organised by the National Film Authority.

The second edition of the Africa Cinema Summit is aimed at fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth within the African cinema industry.
