The team lead for the seven Ghanaians gearing up to undertake a 1,300-kilometer Accra-Tamale-Accra  bike expedition from November 1 – 11, 2023, Michael Amankwa, aka Don Milla, is calling on Ghanaians from all walks of life to support the worthy course and make it successful.

Speaking in a 5.14-minute introductory audio-visual clip, Michael Amankwa reminded Ghanaians that the primary purposes of the expedition dubbed “Success In Motion”, is to create awareness and raise funds in support of mental health, so he urged Ghanaians to come on board and support with their prayers and funds to enable the team achieve the purpose of the expedition.

“We want to drive people to live life to the fullest. Lot’s of of our people are trapped in mediocrity and the fear of failure so we are not taking the necessary risks required for real fulfilment. But let’s remember that failure is part of success – without failure there is no meaning to life,” he said. According to him, at age 52, he has decided to spend the rest of his life on earth to help people live life to the fullest and the bike expedition is just the beginning of that journey, after he had personally conquered himself by summitting Ghana’s Afadzato 16 times in 18 months, and the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Don Milla noted that the decision to ride manual bicycles from Accra to Tamale and back in ten days was not taken lightly because there are risks involved. He mentioned risks such as bad roads, heavy vehicular traffic, the scotching sun, heavy rains at some points and several other challenges. But that is the essence of life – taking risks and living life to the fullest.

“Life is a serious business and we all need to live it on our own terms. That is the only way we can really make any meaningful impact,” he said.

As part of the expedition, Don Milla said the team will be holding interactive motivational sessions with various identifiable groups such as students of some selected schools, the police and others to drive the can-do spirit in them.

“I will be delivering ten powerful speeches as part of this whole project with the intent of opening the eyes of Ghanaians and Africans to the fact that we are limitless and we can do way more than we are doing at any point in time,” he said.

He admitted that the project is a scary one for them, and their families and loved ones are very concerned for them – but they are determined to subdue the fear, take the risk and achieve something beyond themselves.

Meanwhile, as part of the pre-expedition events, the team will be donating some items to the Psychiatric Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra as part of this year’s World Mental Health Day, which falls today, October 10, 2023.
