Accra High Court has dismissed a bail application filled by lawyers for ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo who is linked to the alleged coup plotters.

Appearing before the court, lawyers for ACP Dr. Agordzo requested that his client should be granted bail because he is not officially charged with the offence of coup plotting despite the charge against him at the Kaneshie District Court.

He said his client is a Senior Police Officer with two ranks away from the topmost position which is the IGP, therefore he is harmless and cannot plot a coup as the state suspects him of.

He argued that the police no longer need him for investigation.

He explained that since November 4th when he was grilled at the BNI, the state has not even called him for further questioning.

The State Attorney Hilda Graig opposed to Mr. Kpebu’s submission on grounds that ACP Dr. Agordzo with his international and local experience in investigation coupled with powerful influence in the police service, if he is granted bail investigation could be hampered.

The court presided by Justice George Buadi in dismissing the application said the applicant is a senior officer and presently connected to the alleged coup plotters who are not in detention.

He added that he is a senior officer and such highly placed individual and the nature of his work demands some level of aloofness from political association.

He also added that the application is premature as investigtion is ongoing and if granted bail his position at the service might interfere with the investigations.

ACP Dr. Agodzo has been charged with abetment of treason felony.

He is alleged at offering some assistance to leader of the alleged coup plotters Dr. Frederick Mac Palm and eight others.
