Adenta: MCE swears-in District Census Implementation committee

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Adenta Municipality, Alexander Nii-Noi Adumoah, has sworn-in an 8-member District Census Implementation Committee (DCIC) to ensure smooth implementation of the upcoming Population and Housing census in the municipality.

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) as a mandatory body by law has scheduled to undertake a Nationwide Population and Census exercise slated for June, 2020. The exercise takes off from June 28 which has been declared as census night, and enumeration starts the next day across the country.

In order to ensure quality and smooth census, GSS has taken the initiative to form committees to oversee the affairs of the census in each district across the country.

Nii-Noi Adumoah advised the committee members to take up their responsibilities and execute them appropriately to achieve successful 2020 Population and Housing census, stating that, “this has made government to direct all Assemblies to form such committees to coordinate affairs and activities of the census in their various districts.

“Ultimately, the DCIC together with the technical team are to ensure a credible census data at the end of the day. It is also expected that all of us would help achieve this goal,” he added.

He again urged the members to serve in their capacity and expect nothing but the best, adding that the quality of data would be what Adenta Municipality depends on.

The MCE further assured of the Assembly’s support for the success of the programme and promised that adequate resources would be provided for a successful census.

Dr. Francis Kweku Siripi, coordinating Director at the GSS noted that the statistical service is well-resourced to undertake the exercise but seek the assistance of the Assembly to conduct the census peacefully.

“We want everybody in the country to be captured in the data, therefore we need adequate publicity, support and concentration from all sectors and residents to ensure smooth and peaceful census in the municipality. We also plead with residents to compromise with our enumerators devoid of any political affiliation because this is a national agenda”, he noted.

The chairperson for the committee, Jemima Apedo-kallikrates promised the committee would make sure the municipality records the best throughout the exercise as they would mobilise and educate residents to avoid any mishap.

Other members of the committee are Vincent Otoo (Secretary), Nii Adjetey Obuor, Emma Akweley Amarh, Dr. Julius Dadebo, Sylvia Osei, Nii Adotey Saka and the Educational Director in the municipality.
