Adhere To Road Traffic Regulations-Motorists, Pedestrians Advised

The National Road Safety Authority has admonished motorists and pedestrains to adhere to all road safety regualtions to help reduce road accidents as we approach the festive season.

Addressing motorists and pedestrains at the launch of its road safety campaign for the Christmas activities, the Executive Director of NRSA, Ing. May Obiri Yeboah says her outfit will be sensitizing both motorists and pedestrians on how to ensure road safety measures.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister for Transport, Titus Nii Glover says the development is key to government hence the institution of several governmental measures.

He urged the drivers to drive carefully before, during and after Christmas festive holidays.

Hon Titus Glover highlighted some causes of road accidents.

Statistics from the NRSA indicates that 11,342 road accidents were recorded from January to October 2019.

Out of this number 950 deaths were recorded with 11,500 people injured.

600 people have lost their lives through motorcycles crashes from January to October 2019, the NRSA has also disclosed.

According to the NRSA, these deaths were due to indiscipline on the part of riders of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as “Okada” as they fail to comply with road traffic regulations, disregard traffic lights.
