Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has declared that the Black Stars have their destiny in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers firmly in their own hands, despite being held to a goalless draw against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium during their third qualifying match.

In the latest round of matches, Angola secured a victory over Niger, maintaining their perfect start to the qualifiers and keeping Ghana’s hopes alive. The results mean that the Black Stars still have a chance to qualify for next year’s tournament in Morocco, but they must secure crucial wins in their upcoming matches.

Ahead of the reverse fixture against Sudan in Libya on Tuesday, October 15, Coach Addo expressed relief that Angola won, stating, “I think it was good that Angola won. If Niger had won, they would have passed us, and that would have been bad.”

He added, “Now the situation is still in our hands, and we need to win this very match tomorrow. Once we are second, I think we all know—and we saw that—we can beat all of those teams we played against.”

A victory for Ghana against Sudan would elevate them above their opponents in the standings, setting the stage for a stronger position in the final two qualifying games in November. However, anything less than a win could significantly complicate the Black Stars’ chances of making it to Morocco for the tournament.

With the stakes high, the Black Stars are focused on delivering a strong performance to keep their AFCON aspirations alive.
